Members of the event discussed topical issues of library-electronic sphere development in Ukraine.
People’s deputies Mariya Matios, Olha Levchenko, Yaroslav Fedorchuk, Volodymyr Yavorivskyi stressed on the importance of the role of libraries in the development of civic society. According to the members of the Committee, the primary step in this area should be the creation of informational and cultural centers on the basis of the libraries, and centers of administrative services, where citizens could receive information on the activity of state authority bodies (including digital sources) and to learn how they could join the lawmaking process and influence state decision making.
The issue of implementation and funding of current state target programs in librarian area was discussed during the meeting, particularly, the State target national cultural program of creating a single information library system “Library-XXI”.
Members of the Committee stressed on the importance of replenishment of librarian funds and modernization of public libraries. In this context, members of the discussion drew attention to the necessity of solving the issue of purchase of informational resources for libraries on the legislative level.
In particular, people’s deputy Yaroslav Fedorchuk informed about the preparation of the bill on amendments and supplements to several legislative acts re library modernization and development of librarianship. According to him, the document should fix equal legal norms on the legislative level that will promote modernization of libraries, replenishment of librarian funds, including the documents with point system, equipment for the libraries for persons with disabilities. Author of the bill called the representatives of librarian sphere to participate in the elaboration of the document.
Round table discussion was held jointly with the All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Librarian Association” within the Parliamentary Development Project (II).
